Juanita Maes of Redwing recently had a monumental week. This amazing lady has lived her entire life in Huerfano County and celebrated her 100^th birthday on April 21^st, and then on April 25^th she was recognized and honored at the Huerfano County Commissioners meeting as the monthly Honored Elder. Friends and relatives from around the country gathered to pay tribute. Juanita is a perfect example of the many elders in our county that have made quiet differences yet lived a simple life. Juanita displayed a positive outlook and a strong faith to see her through challenges. She was always willing to offer a meal or a bed to spend the night to those in need. Juanita is a wonderful historian of family as well as community events and her memory is amazing with its details and accuracy. Juanita indeed deserved the Honored Elder recognition.
